Sony has officially announced the latest WH-1000XM6 wireless over-ear headphones. Building upon the success of its predecessors, the XM6 gets improve active noise cancellation (ANC), the design has been overhauled to make it easy to carry it around and the battery life should also see some major gains with the new model. We are still not a big fan of how Sony names these products (like a prototype) but that has not deterred people from picking up the new iterations.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 comes in Black, Platinum Silver and Midnight Blue colours. The new changes and upgrades mean the XM6 headphone now come for $450 (Rs 38,600 approx) which is $50 (Rs 450 approx) increase compared to the WH-1000XM5 version.

The new flagship headphones come powered advanced processor and an adaptive microphone system. The ANC levels surely benefit from these upgrades and give you even better isolation from the ambient sound.

A key enhancement in the WH-1000XM6 is the integration of the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which fine-tunes audio from 12 microphones. It is 1.5 times more than the previous WH-1000XM5 and seven times faster than its predecessor in real time.

The design of the new WH-1000X headphone has been refined with an elegant, soft-fit wider headband crafted with vegan leather, ensuring a comfortable, pressure-free fit. The asymmetrical headband design allows for quick and easy identification of the left and right earcups. The earpads are designed for all-day comfort, using a stretchable material that provides a secure yet gentle seal, effectively reducing external noise.

Plus, the control is at the user’s fingertips with tactile buttons and a responsive touch panel, allowing for easy switching between noise cancelling, ambient sound mode and microphone mute.

Sony’s intuitive Sound Connect app lets you adjust the audio with a 10-band equaliser or create new Background Music effects. Gamers, on the other hand, can enjoy the Game EQ that is developed with Sony’s expertise from its INZONE gaming range to optimise sound quality for First-Person Shooter (FPS) games.

For movie lovers, the WH-1000XM6 features 360 Reality Audio Upmix for Cinema, delivering a spatial audio experience similar to a movie theatre from standard 2-channel stereo sound, thanks to Sony’s unique up-mixing and 360 Spatial Sound technology.

The WH-1000XM6 also features scene-based listening. This innovative function uses sensing technology to automatically play music based on the user’s activity and dynamically adjusts the noise cancellation level according to their surroundings and location.
