Vivo X Fold 5 has made its debut in the Indian market this week, going up against the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 model. Both these brands are bringing their latest foldables to the region, as OnePlus decides against launching the Open 2 model in 2025 altogether. Vivo X Fold 5 is priced in India at Rs 1,49,999 for the single 16GB + 512GB variant. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 price in India starts at Rs 1,74,999 for the base 256GB model, going up to Rs 1,86,999 for the 512GB and Rs 2,16,999 if you want the 16GB + 1TB variant.
Vivo X Fold 5 will be available starting July 30, while Samsung brings the Fold 7 earlier to the market from July 25, with pre-bookings now open.

Both the Vivo and Samsung foldables have a glass body at the back and armour/ceramic glass protection on the front. The X Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 unfolded dimensions are 4.3mm and 4.2mm, respectively. While in the folded state you get 9.2mm with the X Fold 7 and 8.9mm with the Z Fold 7. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a 6.5-inch LTPO AMOLED 2x display on the cover with Corning Gorilla Ceramic 2 durability while the inner screen gets an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x LTPO panel with 2600 nits of peak brightness.

Samsung opts for its latest 200MP sensor with OIS as a part of a triple camera system that also has a 10MP telephoto lens with OIS and a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens. The front of the screen has a 10MP wide and 10MP sensor on the cover.

Vivo’s new fold is light, thin but does not take a hit in the battery department as it carries a large 6,000mAh unit that supports 80W wired and 40W wireless charging speeds. Samsung’s Fold 7 is lighter, and thinner than the X Fold 5 but you get a 4,400mAh battery with 25W charging supported, and no adapter in the box.
