WhatsApp wants to bring threaded replies on iOS for users and it has started testing the feature for iPhone users in the beta version. Replies are available on the messaging app by long-pressing the chat, and sharing the quote in a new bubble.

But threaded replies will be a new addition whenever WhatsApp feels it is ready for the public release. Having this feature will allow users to see a thread of all their replies with their friend or family rather than scrolling down the screen to see them.

Threaded Replies On WhatsApp: Do We Need It?

WhatsApp is testing the feature in the iOS beta version 25.19.10.80 through the TestFlight program. Threads are common on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and even LinkedIn for that matter. But WhatsApp probably needs its own threads that effectively list down all the replies you have made for chats at different times.

The beta also teases how the feature will work for users. If you have a number of replies to a chat, WhatsApp will add a small indicator which tells you about the series of replies in the thread. This could be in the form of an arrow which opens up with a tap and gives you the responses in the form of a list with a timestamp.

WhatsApp will make it easy to reply to any of the chats from the list itself so that you have a clear record of all the conversations with that person. Thread for replies might not be very useful for personal chats but in groups, when you engage with people for hours, that is where threaded replies make a lot of sense. We hope to see the new feature make its way to the public beta soon and eventually come to Android as well.

WhatsApp is changing the dynamics of the app in a big way. It is bringing ads to Status updates and Channels. But it is also adding new features for businesses which means more ways for them to spam users.

The company has announced a slew of features to attract more brands to the platform and help them connect with their customers with the help of AI and calling support. WhatsApp wants to use AI and help businesses handle the chat traffic for customer support and even respond to the queries where possible.

If AI chatbots weren’t enough, WhatsApp will allow customers to call or even send a voice chat to businesses. “Businesses will be able to receive a call from a customer when they want to talk to someone live, or call a customer directly once they’ve asked to hear from you," WhatsApp points out in a post.
