Cases Of Cyber Fraud In Rural India: MPs Express Concerns Despite Govt Assurances
Xiaomi users have got a critical security warning from the Indian government this week. The mobile brand offers products across different price ranges which makes it popular among hackers and it seems the new issue can make them easy targets.
The security risk is linked to the Mi Connect Service app and the warning from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In suggests a wide range of Xiaomi devices, including phones, TVs and even laptops might be affected.
Xiaomi App Security Issue: What You Should Know
The CERT-In bulletin dated July 1, 2025 comes with a critical severity rating and explains the issue that can affect millions of users. “A vulnerability has been reported in Xiaomi Mi Connect Service App which could be exploited by an attacker to gain unauthorized access to the victim’s device and bypass security restrictions on the targeted system."
Describing the risk further, the security agency says, “An unauthorized Access Vulnerability exists in the Xiaomi Mi Connect Service APP due to flaw in the verification logic
(improper authentication) that can be bypassed," which basically puts a big question mark on the security of all the Xiaomi devices that have the Mi Connect app and it is likely to be installed on a big number of its products.
Xiaomi Mi Connect App Security Risk: What Should Users Do
The first thing you need to do is check if the Xiaomi phone, tablet or TV that you own does not have the Mi Connect app 3.1.895.10 or previous versions. If your device has this version, you need to update to the latest version that Xiaomi is offering through its own app settings.
The bulletin does not say if any Xiaomi users in India have been exploited by the issue but it is fair to say that all Mi users should get the latest available update for the Mi Connect app. “Critical risks to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected devices," the note further adds.
Xiaomi sees China as one of its biggest markets, and that’s where it has unveiled its latest electric SUV this week. The company has also introduced new phones and other devices that should come to global markets soon.
