WhatsApp supports payments, generates AI images and soon it will become your go-to document scanner. Yes, the messaging is testing this feature in the Android beta version that could make it even more popular among users. Having this tool will reduce the need to download other third-party apps for scanning documents on the phone and just use the standard camera app working through WhatsApp to get the digital copies.

We have been hearing about this rumoured WhatsApp feature for a while and the latest Android beta tests suggest the official roll out might not be far away.

WhatsApp Document Scanners: How It Works

Most people have relied on third-party document scanners from apps like Adobe Scan, or even Google Drive for a while. WhatsApp getting a scanner for files will ensure they don’t need a separate app to do this. The WhatsApp Android beta version 2.25.19.21 has been spotted offering this feature, while iOS users have already got the tool earlier. This is how the scanner will work on WhatsApp

WhatsApp will then show you a preview of the captured scan and let you add filters, crop or even clean up the document. The messaging app also mentions that it will have access only to the image that you scan using the feature, which basically means all your other data are secure.

We have been independently able to verify the availability of the feature in the latest Android beta version and it works as advertised.

The scanned results of an ID card, A4 paper and other content was quite clear, and almost felt like the original content during our tests. WhatsApp is also trying out new AI features via Meta that are being made available to all users. The messaging app is bringing ads to the platform via Channels and Status updates and it will be rolling out globally, including the EU countries in the coming months.
