WhatsApp continues with new features and the overdrive additions mean now the focus shifts to WhatsApp Status updates. The messaging app sees big traction for the feature which is why it has brought not one or two but four new tools to Status update that is available to all users now. Status update is WhatsApp’s version of Instagram Stories that lets you create content and the platform is giving you more tools to make the updates interactive, fun and personalised.

WhatsApp Status Update New Features

You get four new features with the latest WhatsApp update for Status and these are:

Layout: You can now put Status updates as collage of up to 6 photos using the editing tool available on the messaging app.

Use Music: Now you can put Status on WhatsApp that focuses on a favourite song and even make a sticker around the track to match the vibe.

Photo as Stickers: You can also turn your photos into stickers on the messaging app and add them to your Status update. The photo can be edited to personalise the size and shape.

Connect people: Use the new Add Yours sticker with your photo and bring other friends to chat and even share it on their feed.

WhatsApp says these features will be rolling out soon to all users in the next few months.

WhatsApp is also testing some features internally and one of them is linked to having usernames for your profile. Bringing usernames will stop people from sharing their number with strangers, which has been a big privacy issue for years. Usernames can be defined by the user so that they can have a unique identity that can be freely shared with people and not worry about their phone number leaking in the public.

These changes will be important for people in WhatsApp groups and other chats that you have with businesses and other platforms.

The messaging platform is expected to advise users to set up a username that has at least one letter along with numbers and symbols. For some reason, WhatsApp is telling people that the username cannot start with ‘www.’ and you will be verified for the username, to know if that ID is available or already in use.
