Apple’s self repair program has got new entrants recently and you can now count on iPad and iPad Pro models as devices that can be fixed at home by the consumers. You already have iPhones and a large section of Macs covered under this programme, so it was about time that we saw the company add iPads to its lineup, which now caters to over 65 products and makes them eligible for self-repairs at home. 

iPads Now Self-Repair: How Apple Offers This Service 

Apple started this programme with a slew of iPhones, extending support to Macs. The company offers a repair kit that is shipped to your house and Apple charges a decent money to make these deliveries happen. These are helpful if you have issues with iPads that are now out of warranty.

Apple advises people to go through the user manual and use the online store for the repair service to order the genuine parts. The iPad models covered in this programme are: 

As you would expect, Apple is limiting the support to its latest iPad models, most of them powered by the M-series chipset. You can order the display, camera module or the USB C port for these iPads and repair them at home using Apple’s tools. You can even rent the toolkit that Apple uses at its own service centres. Apple is offering a list of repair stores from where the parts can be sourced and the pricing is also being kept in check with its standard policies. 

All the parts facing issues can be returned to Apple who can offer different incentives on future purchases to the consumers. 

Self-repair is being highly sought by many countries, and even the Indian government has worked out a roadmap for these services. Apple is yet to bring the self-repair model to India but we expect the situation to change in the next few years with other brands also compelled to have their services.

Speaking of iPads, WhatsApp is finally available for the device, as a dedicated app, the first time we are seeing this happen in 15 years since the first model was released by Apple.
