WhatsApp is adding new features and the new updates bring improved security for billions but starting June 1, 2025, quite a few users and devices lost support for the messaging app. The warning was shared well in advance and the deadline was known to everyone.

But even then WhatsApp users are being told again about the issue and why some of the older iPhones and Android phones will not get the latest features and have stopped working for good. So what had caused WhatsApp to stop supporting these many Android and iPhones? Well, I’ll give you the answer.

WhatsApp Goes Offline: Which Phones Lose Support?

WhatsApp from June 1, 2025 onwards has lost support for a slew of Android phones as well as iPhones. WhatsApp for iPhones will stop working if you are still on the iOS 15.1 version which means you will need to get an iPhone that will run the later iOS versions. As we mentioned earlier, the messaging app was compatible with iPhones running iOS 12 version but that has ended now.

But if you are still using Android phones and are worried about WhatsApp support going away then we can tell you that the new update is only applicable if somehow you still own an Android phone with version 5.0 or earlier. Here’s the list of iPhones and Android phones that have become part of the latest WhatsApp culling:

Why End WhatsApp Support?

WhatsApp, why are you ending support on all these phones and iPhones? The main reason is linked to new features and the security of the users. The iPhone models given here lost support for iOS update a while back. iOS 15 is three-gen old now, so upgrading to a new iPhone, something like the iPhone 13 or 14 won’t be a bad idea.

WhatsApp recently added a new advanced chat privacy layer for its users which blocks people in chat and groups from copying your messages and media files like images and videos.

By discontinuing support for older versions, WhatsApp can optimise its app and introduce innovative functionalities that would be incompatible with outdated operating systems.
