WhatsApp is now available on iPad, and continues to try out new features to keep people engaged on the platform. A new report suggests WhatsApp will soon give users the option to logout from their account rather than having to delete it altogether.

The details come via the latest WhatsApp beta version, and spotted by the folks at Android Authority, who claim the new logout feature will allow you to delete the data on WhatsApp as well.

WhatsApp Logout Button: About Time?

Having a logout button feels critical for apps like these, and for people who don’t want to delete their account but just deactivate it for sometime.

Facebook has offered the option for years so it makes sense for another Meta-owned platform to support that as well. WhatsApp seems to be testing the logout option internally for now but a public beta version of the tool should be expected in the next few months.

WhatsApp will have two options for the people logging out. You can either delete all the data and preferences, which is almost like deleting the account and details. However, the messaging will let you keep the data and preferences, so that you can come back anytime, sign in with your mobile number and start using WhatsApp like before without losing your chats, groups and more.

Digital detox is a real and serious thing these days, so a logout from WhatsApp option will definitely get a big thumbs up from most people. In fact, we will like more of the social media apps to offer this option going forward.

Having said that, WhatsApp will surely want to entice people to keep their data on board, so that its active user base count does not take a huge drop.

WhatsApp is also building a new media hub for the web client so that you can track all the files, photos and links that you have shared with other people on the platform. The hub has been spotted in the latest beta version and should be available via an update in the near future.
