Your Phone’s Battery Draining Faster Than Usual? Google Says It Was Instagram’s Fault
Google showcased its work on AI Mode for search at the I/O 2025 earlier this month but the biggest news about the feature got somewhat sidelined. Google’s AI push is evident, so much that people are being laid off in favour of the technology doing their work.
And soon, AI will take over its Search platform, with emphasis on businesses to monetise their results and content on the feed. Google is slowly moving away from the traditional search trends, and its latest AI integration suggests the future is moving away from what we have used for decades.
AI mode is basically the new-gen Search avatar that responds to your queries with AI-generated answers, do some follow-ups and even offer links to websites for further details. Google is investing big in AI and features like AI mode cannot sustain being a freebie for billions. We already got a glimpse of how ads in AI search work out.
For instance, if you are looking for a premium sneaker within a certain budget, the AI version of Search will not only show you these options. It will also come with the size and fitting options, consider your physical needs and shortlist the best ones and finally guide you to the website where the product is available where you can make the payment and order the item.
Ads In AI Mode On Google: Alarm Bells Already?
But there are concerns around AI-generated content, especially with tech having a tendency of hallucinations and sharing fake details. Now, imagine if companies can pay to publish this content as ads in the AI mode and someone actually uses the details or opens the website.
Those are the bigger issues that Google needs to tackle before having ads in the AI mode. Having said that, Google will make a case for growing AI search users, which then puts the onus on the businesses to bank on the traction and not miss out on the hot property at this stage.
The other issue with having ads in AI mode is that companies can later adopt policies that allow them to scrape the data and sell it to business, something that Perplexity has hinted could happen in the future.
Most people agree that AI is here and it is better to live with it rather than ignore or avoid it. But Google needs to pace out its transition with AI mode and ads in the vertical, and first gain the trust of the users with its features and future products.
