Your Phone’s Battery Draining Faster Than Usual? Google Says It Was Instagram’s Fault
JBL is a known name in the audio space and most of its focus is in the affordable to mid-range segment. The JBL Beam Tune 2 is another addition to its catalogue of products that try to punch above their weight, especially for the price. Most people looking for TWS earbuds need three things: reliable ANC, good sound output and decent battery life.
The design aspect does not feature much in their checklist and understandably so. But can the Beam Tune 2 priced under Rs 6,000 offer most of these basics and offer a compelling product? We tested the device for a week to give you the answer.
Keeping It Compact
The Beam Tune 2 has a compact form at least with the charging case which suggests JBL has given it a lot of thought while developing the product. You get the standard LED charging status next to the lid and the earbuds sit comfortably inside the case.
The JBL and Beam Tune 2 branding at the front and back, respectively is hard to miss and the textured finish makes us believe in its long-term durability. The USB C charging port sits at the bottom of the case which could have easily been accommodated on the side.
The earbuds have the ideal size and weight that can be worn for long duration, even though we highly recommend you to avoid that for health reasons. The buds have touch controls that activate with the voice message when you wear them.
Speaking of which, the earbuds are comfortable to wear and they do not threaten to fall off at any time. Having said that, the materials used on the buds can be slippery, especially when you take them out of the case.
What It Offers
The Beam Tune 2 supports ANC with varied levels that you can activate from the buds. It has some of the basic features covered for a TWS earbuds but in-ear detection is missing which could have been added. Gesture controls are also available and if you want to try them, the JBL Headphones app is the place to be.
The earbuds get 6 mics in total which is essential for calling purposes and JBL is ensuring that people have that available with the Beam Tune 2. You can even change the equaliser settings or activate spatial sound for different content and genre. So, yeah, the Beam Tune 2 has a loaded feature list and covers most of them.
How It Sounds
Does the Beam Tune 2 match its features with the right sound profile? Most people will like its balanced audio output which is neither too heavy on bass or loses out the mids to fit in the voices. The use of 10mm drivers did surprise us a bit but the results were positive.
The ANC levels are good as long as you are in an office space but venture out wearing them and you notice some noise creeping through. Even at the highest ANC settings those earbuds do a good job but not the best we’ve seen lately.
The use of three mics each means the calling quality is good and you can hear the person speaking or hearing quite nicely. The pairing of the device is also seamless, both for phones and laptops. And like we mentioned, not having in-ear detection means you have to wear the buds and play the content yourself which is not a real deal breaker.
Does It Last?
The charging case packs a 590mAh battery that is claimed to last for around 10 hours of playback with ANC enabled. We did not have a tough time with the Beam Tune 2 and got it running on a single charge for well over 8 hours and close to JBL’s claimed figures.
You have support for fast-charging which gives you 4 hours of support with 15 minutes of charging. The full tank does take more than an hour and then runs long.
JBL Beam Tune 2 is a hard-core TWS earbuds for under 6,000 that everyone should consider if they are happy to stretch the budget. It gets ANC, a reliable option for calls and the battery life is decent. The compact design makes it easy to carry but not having in-ear detection feels like a con that needs to be highlighted.
