A Weibo post by tipster Smart Pikachu states that the Xiaomi 16 is anticipated to make its debut in China in September. There are rumours that the alleged phone will feature a small and compact design once again.

The Xiaomi 16 will probably be the first smartphone to come out with a Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC, the tipster adds. Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Elite successor a bit earlier this year and Xiaomi could benefit from this move. According to reports, the upcoming chip would have LPDDR6 or LPDDR5X RAM which gives it the latest performance.

Xiaomi 16 is anticipated to pack a bigger battery than Xiaomi 15. The latest leak suggests a the 16 model could get 6,800mAh battery (5,420mAh on the 15) with 100W wired fast charging support expected.

The flagship phone should get a Leica-powered camera system like the previous few flagships. Reports say Xiaomi 16 could get a 50MP triple rear camera setup that includes telephoto lens. Xiaomi should also have the Android 16-based HyperOS 3 version available for this device which seems rather ambitious for a brand that continues to take its time with the new OS upgrades in the market.
