Mi Band was a popular wearable in the country not just because of its affordable price tag but what it offered for the price. The wearable market has evolved in the last few years, which has made it essential that brands revamp their strategy and products. So, we are now getting a Redmi Watch model called Move in the market priced under Rs 2,000.
What you get for this money is an AMOLED display, promise of a long battery life, decent health trackers and other niceties. Does the Redmi Watch Move deliver on all or at least some of these aspects? We used the device extensively to look for these answers.
Wear It All Day And Night
Redmi Watch has some resemblance to the Apple Watch SE variant at first glance thanks to the big display, its square design and the crown dial. It weighs around 39 grams with the strap on which might sound heavy but you can easily wear it all day and even night while you sleep.
We did that for over a few weeks and had no issues except for some marks on the wrist when the watch was strapped in too tight.
The strap is made of TPU material now (was silicone-based earlier) which did not cause any discomfort to us while wearing it. Xiaomi will sell its own straps for the Redmi Watch Move version which will happen later.
To be fair, we’re not a big fan of the strapping latching on from inside the hook. We would rather have the hook on the outside which ensures less skin contact with the wearable on the wrist.
The Rich Screen Quality
Redmi Watch Move gets a 1.85-inch AMOLED display that has most of the requisite bells and whistles, including Always-on display feature. You get some watch faces preloaded and new ones can be downloaded using the Mi Fitness app that pairs with the smartwatch.
The display itself is bright in outdoor conditions, has the right size to show you all the details and manages to keep the bezels look thinner than they actually are.
The 2.5D curved nature gives it the premium touch that is hard to ignore on the wrist.
Does It Deliver Where It Matters?
Redmi Watch Move has the features and sensors for the basic health and fitness tracking along with sleep. The step counts are off by 10-15 steps, which is manageable, while other trackers do a better job, especially the sleep monitoring tool that gives you details about how you sleep, how long you slept and when you took a nap.
We expected the bare minimum but the Redmi Watch Move gave us a little extra and that’s always a good sign.
The crown dial is there to assist you in two ways. You can long press the dial to activate the assistant which can also talk or text in Hindi. You rotate the dial to move across the settings panels across different apps on the wearable. There is a nice haptic feedback touch that gives it further finesse.
The Mi Fitness app has an easy to use interface with the basics divided in four tabs and letting you track health, fitness, control the device and more. You can use the app using your Mi account that offers data sync with any previous device.
The app is responsive, gives all the details and data you need for better tracking, although we would advise against taking them seriously or as an actual medical consult.
The HyperOS version built into the watch is quite fluid and easy to navigate with small tabs for features and swipe through to access other tools like weather and water count.
And Yes, It Runs Long
Redmi Watch Move is claimed to last for over 14 days with basic use but during our tests we took it a step further and enabled all the power-hungry features to see how much the wearable can handle.
The 300mAh battery unit lasted us for around 7 days on a single charge, which came down to 5 days when you enable Always-on-Display on the Redmi Watch Move. This is a lot better than most watches in the market, especially when you can get it fully charged in over 1 hour with the bundled proprietary charging unit.
Redmi Watch Move is a solid wearable that delivers on the basics with health features in tow, some reliable tracking numbers, a clean OS and lasts almost a week. Good for this budget in most ways.
