WhatsApp is going to stop working on select iPhones in one week from now. The messaging app confirmed the deadline for these users earlier this year, and now we are knocking on the doors which shuts down the messaging app for millions. 

WhatsApp brings advanced features for all users but some older platforms lose support because their hardware is not future-proof. In such cases, the messaging app stops supporting the devices and soon you will see that happen with some popular iPhone models.

So why will WhatsApp stop working on old iPhones? WhatsApp will only work if these users upgrade to get the latest updates and features from the platform. Apple is also not going to support these older iOS versions which means the security risks increase on these models.

WhatsApp Support Ends: Which iPhones Are Affected 

WhatsApp for iPhones will stop working if you are still on the iOS 15.1 version which means you will need to get an iPhone that will run the later iOS versions. As of now, the messaging app runs on iPhones with iOS 12 version as well but by May 2025, the update will make sure that only the recent iOS updates support the platform.

iOS 15 is three-gen old now, so upgrading to a new iPhone, something like the iPhone 13 or 14 won’t be a bad idea. The tipster says the new version will be a problem if you have the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or the iPhone 6 Plus models.

By discontinuing support for older versions, WhatsApp can optimise its app and introduce innovative functionalities that would be incompatible with outdated operating systems, the tipster adds.
