Apple rekindled the Mini era with iPhones but its tepid demand forced the company to go Plus with its later models. However, all signs suggest the compact flagship smartphones are coming back into fashion, and we are going to see a lot of interest around these devices in 2025.

Brands like Xiaomi, Vivo and OnePlus have shown their cards with new compact phones recently, and they are unlikely to stay confined to China this time around. 

Phones have gotten bigger, which has attracted many users, especially those who enjoy gaming or watching movies on the handheld device but it is time to reverse the trend and buyers seem keen for it. 

Compact Phones FTW: Why It Is Coming Back? 

A recent market study in India says over 65 percent of users are keen to buy a compact phone as long as it performs like the powerful flagship phones. We have seen brands like Asus and Sony come out with compact premium phones, and you could say the same about the Samsung Galaxy S25, the Pixel 9 and even the new Xiaomi 15 models. 

The study even mentions that over 60 percent of the consumers prefer a phone with a 6 to 6.5-inch display which is the ideal sweet spot for a handy, powerful device. 

However, things could get further exciting in the next few months as not one but two-three brands look to bring their compact flagship phones to the Indian market. Xiaomi 15 is one such option already out there but seems when it comes to the flagships people would prefer to go for brands like Apple and Samsung. 

OnePlus and Vivo are being highly rumoured to launch their compact phones in India which means we could see more Snapdragon 8 Elite or Dimensity 9000 series phones coming at a more accessible price for the buyers. The OnePlus 13T is a definite sign of things to come in 2025 and most likely in the next few years.

The New Battery Era 

The sudden hype around compact phones is also because of the new silicone carbon technology that has helped with making batteries denser, which means a 6,000mAh unit can now be fit into a frame that measures under 8mm.

These changes are most likely going to help brands develop a smaller device with powerful traits and no compromise on the battery life, something that the survey even highlights people demanding if they look buy a compact phone.

Apple and Samsung are planning for sleek, premium devices, while others focus on more practical devices. The former will surely eye the big-pocket consumers but their compromise with battery, number of cameras and some more could play into the hands of the compact wagon, and we can’t wait to see how this new battle pans out.
